The U17 Girls Gold team traveled to Brookings, South Dakota over the weekend to compete in the 2013 Fishback Classic. The girls team is comprised mostly of 15 and 16 year old players and so they set out to challenge themselves by playing well above their age division in the U19 bracket.
In their first game they came up against West Fargo U18 team and won by a score of 2 to 1. The next morning they were matched up with their toughest opponent in the bracket, Dakota United U19 Girls, who is made up of a strong core of girls who won the North Dakota High School championship this past year. They fought hard, but couldn’t keep the other team out of the back of net as they lost 5 to 1. Those two results were good enough to get the girls into the semi finals of the competition, where they came up against Oahe Insanity U19 Girls. It was a close game and in the end the Storm came out on top by a score of 2 to 1. In the final the U17 Girls once again were matched up against the Dakota United U19 Girls. Unfortunately there isn’t always a happy ending as the girls fell by a score of 6 to 1.
While it would’ve been better if the girls won, the overall experience of the weekend should help boost their confidence as they played against older and more experience competition throughout the weekend. Great job ladies!
