This weekend Tri-City Storm Soccer Club sent 18 teams down to Minnetonka for the annual Tonka Splash tournament. It was a tournament of two completely different days as Saturday was a gorgeous day for soccer, while Sunday proved to be a typical soccer weekend with plenty of rain, wind and mud. The teams didn’t let the weather get in their way as Tri-City had two teams win it all and several others who finished 2nd in their brackets.
The U11 Girls finished in 2nd place in their group with 26 points after winning three of their four games 2-1, 2-1, and 3-1. The U12 girls also finished 2nd in their group with 14 points, while the U12 Boys Black team finished tied for 2nd place missing out on playing in the championship game due to tie breakers. In the same age group the U12 Boys White finished with 28 points in their group after going undefeated and winning 4-0, 2-0 and 9-2. They advanced to the championship game where they came out on top by a score of 5-3. U12 Boys are pictured below after winning in the mud and rain.
The U15 Girls Black team (picture at top of post) also ended up as champions after a long weekend of soccer. They finished with 22 points in their group winning 2-0, 3-2 and one game that ended as a scoreless draw. The championship game also ended scoreless at the end of regulation, but the girls ended up winning 4-3 on a penalty shootout. It was the U15 Girls first tournament of the year after playing for their respective high schools during the spring season.
Overall, it was a great weekend for teams to play lots of games and improve on different aspects of the game. Even mother nature herself couldn’t stop the Tri-City teams from having a successful and action packed weekend.
